Newcastle City Centre
If you want to be slap bang in the heart of the action, choose Newcastle city centre. Both Newcastle University and Northumbria University are located there, as well as Newcastle College. You’ll have a host of bars, clubs and restaurants right on your doorstep, so you won’t have to fork out on expensive taxi fares at the end of the night. Of course, there’s intu Eldon Square and Northumberland Street if you fancy a spot of retail therapy. If live music is your thing, you’re spoilt for choice with the O2 Academy Newcastle and the Sage Gateshead. For music megastars, there’s the Metro Radio Arena. As the heart of the North East, Newcastle city centre is served by excellent transport links, including regular buses and metro services across the region. Visiting friends? Catch a train from Newcastle Central Station.

The popular student area and home of Hive is located just a few minutes’ walk from the city centre. You’ll still be close to the hustle and bustle while still having some breathing space! Homes in Sandyford are perfectly placed between the city centre and nearby Jesmond. Head to Jesmond’s Osbourne Road for a host of bars and restaurants, or stay local and visit Sandyford bars As You Like It and Mr Lynch. Of course, everything the city centre has to offer is just a short walk or Metro ride away. Rental properties are often cheaper than those in the city centre, helping you stretch your student loan that little bit further.

Jesmond is one of the most popular student areas in Newcastle, as it strikes the perfect balance between being close to the city centre and remaining affordable. Osbourne Road is a student hotspot, with many bars offering happy hour deals. Local shops will also come in handy, especially the Tesco Metro store for those essential groceries. The area has two Metro stations — Jesmond and West Jesmond — so it’s easy to get around the region, from the city to the coast.

If you’re studying at Northumbria University’s Coach Lane Campus or are simply looking for a bargain student base, Heaton is for you. Ideally located near the Coach Lane Campus, Heaton has everything you need. There’s supermarkets, shops, restaurants, pubs and, of course, takeaways! These are all located on Chillingham Road, so there’ll be no dashing about from place to place. Chill out in Heaton Park or catch the Metro into town from Chillingham Road Metro station.
